Chasing Butterflies

I revisited my inner girl today and chased butterflies through a field. But not this one.  He posed for me last summer, back when I still shot everything on Auto. Today all the butterflies were in league to frustrate my attempts to capture them on my camera. Just as I would zoom in for a close up, away they flew. There’s only so much running a forty-something with a heavy camera hanging around her neck will do. The closest I came to these yellow babies was this: Shame on those uncooperative butterflies.  I just couldn’t compete with the early nectar … Continue reading Chasing Butterflies

Little Pieces of Glory

Not bad for photography basics!  After completing the six week course, I now know more about my camera than I ever learned just by dabbling with it myself.  Of course now that I know more about cameras, I am already salivating about a new camera body and new lenses, a tripod, a light meter, and all sorts of other accessories that  I didn’t know about before taking this class.  I think perhaps the school is in cahoots with camera manufacturers! The shutter speed for the above shot was 30 seconds.  The room was pitch black, and my daughter carried a … Continue reading Little Pieces of Glory

The Ideal

My photography assignment this week was to create one photo that is “The Ideal.”  I’ve had a tough time distilling that phrase into real life.  I took several landscape shots that to me represent the beauty of God’s creation, like this one:   And then I took a few close-ups of the flowers blooming — early — in my backyard. Roots

There’s a feeling of spring in my heart, and it’s only partly to do with the greening up I’m seeing outside in my neighborhood.  I stumbled on this creek on a walk yesterday afternoon and marveled at the green when just last week, the grass was still dead. Ugly. Brown, like the state of my heart just last week.  But after God sent me on a U-Turn, I feel refreshed in my spirit.  My efforts to be a more encouraging mother are paying off, but I can’t take the credit for it. Anything good in me comes from the Father … Continue reading Roots

Mouth, Be Still!

There have been a few times in my life when the Lord painted a bright red sign telling me I was headed in the wrong direction. Through circumstances, the specific answers to my prayers were vivid and unmistakable. In my early college days, I prayed and agonized over whether a certain boy was “THE” one for me.  I remember asking Him to knock me upside the head if necessary.  He did. Pow!  Not only did he show me that the boy was wrong, but once I was on the right track again, He pointed me to Mr. Right! When my … Continue reading Mouth, Be Still!
