Revenge of the Gas Pump

I feel like I must be starring in a film titled Revenge of the Gas Pump. Not only was the price $3.99 a gallon, but a gallon of it spewed out of the nozzle, on my shirt, on my jeans and jacket…and in my hair. I reek. Unfortunately I’m subjecting other patrons at the ice rink to my odiferous self. I stopped and bought a t-shirt to replace the soaked one and washed my hands and arms….but there’s nothing here at the rink to help my poor hair. On the bright side, at least I know my infection must be … Continue reading Revenge of the Gas Pump

The Thinks I Don’t Want to Think

Today has been a panicky sort of a day. My ongoing battle with anxiety and phobias continues.  However, I am pleased thus far with the EMDR therapy that my new counselor is using. Brain science has come a long way since the doctors told my grandmother (years ago!) to smoke cigarettes for HER anxiety.  She died of lung cancer.  I never have smoked, but anxiety certainly plays a big part in my life. Thankfully EMDR therapy is non invasive and does not require drugs OR cigarette! Since January I have been battling what I thought were really bad allergies.  I’ve … Continue reading The Thinks I Don’t Want to Think

Chasing Butterflies

I revisited my inner girl today and chased butterflies through a field. But not this one.  He posed for me last summer, back when I still shot everything on Auto. Today all the butterflies were in league to frustrate my attempts to capture them on my camera. Just as I would zoom in for a close up, away they flew. There’s only so much running a forty-something with a heavy camera hanging around her neck will do. The closest I came to these yellow babies was this: Shame on those uncooperative butterflies.  I just couldn’t compete with the early nectar … Continue reading Chasing Butterflies

Little Pieces of Glory

Not bad for photography basics!  After completing the six week course, I now know more about my camera than I ever learned just by dabbling with it myself.  Of course now that I know more about cameras, I am already salivating about a new camera body and new lenses, a tripod, a light meter, and all sorts of other accessories that  I didn’t know about before taking this class.  I think perhaps the school is in cahoots with camera manufacturers! The shutter speed for the above shot was 30 seconds.  The room was pitch black, and my daughter carried a … Continue reading Little Pieces of Glory

The Ideal

My photography assignment this week was to create one photo that is “The Ideal.”  I’ve had a tough time distilling that phrase into real life.  I took several landscape shots that to me represent the beauty of God’s creation, like this one:   And then I took a few close-ups of the flowers blooming — early — in my backyard. On my way home from taking my daughter to school, this horse posed for me.  I’ve been wanting to get a shot of him every time I pass, but usually he’s out in the middle of his yard, paying me … Continue reading The Ideal
