Leviticus 5-7:A Way Out

God’s law is not unfair.  He is just, and this aspect of his character is evident throughout these chapters. His law makes provisions for those who are poor so that they, too, can become right with God. In sin offerings, for example, the people are told they must present a female sheep or goat, which is the sin offering with which the priest will purify you from your sin, making you right with the Lord. But then he goes on to command that those who cannot afford a sheep or a goat may bring two turtledoves or two pigeons.  Again, … Continue reading Leviticus 5-7:A Way Out

Leviticus 1-4:Life-giving Blood

These chapters are not for the squeamish. The kinds of animals and grains to be used for offerings are described in great detail (no yeast — only unblemished animals) as well as exacting specifications for the sacrifices.  These offerings were a way for the people to get back in a right relationship with God when they sinned — whether they sinned on purpose, or not, a sacrifice was required. Tonight I am left with more questions than answers. Why is blood so important throughout the Bible?  The smearing of blood on the door frames protected the Hebrews during the Passover. … Continue reading Leviticus 1-4:Life-giving Blood

Exodus 36-38:Backtracking with Excellence

Okay, today I am backtracking.  I just THOUGHT I was finished with the book of Exodus…but yesterday I accidentally skipped over these chapters and went on to the last two.  I think perhaps my mind was a little snow-logged from the record-breaking snowfall we had yesterday. My mother is a gifted artist.  She has the natural ability to sketch anything she sees into an incredible likeness.  My niece is also a gifted artist — she is an excellent photographer and designer.  Have you ever known anyone with a true God-given talent? It’s okay to write “God-given,” because the Lord does … Continue reading Exodus 36-38:Backtracking with Excellence

Exodus 39-40:Green Light!

Today has been an exciting day in the Everfaith household!  We’ve had about ten inches of snow — not remarkable to you northerners…but for those of us living way down south, ten inches might as well be thirty!  The views have been amazing.  We may lose our palm trees and bushes out back, but there isn’t much we can do about that.  We built a snowman and pelted each other with snowballs…funny how a snow day makes us all turn into kids again.  I did not organize my email inbox today.  I did the bare minimum with homeschooling and used … Continue reading Exodus 39-40:Green Light!

Exodus 33-35: Mercy, Not Rejection

What an amazing picture of love these chapters are to me tonight! The Israelites had just built themselves a golden calf.  The Lord was understandably very, very angry with them.  Moses was furious, too, and many of the people (those who weren’t Levites) were killed for their participation in the pagan revelry. God was so enraged that initially he decided to destroy the people completely.  And then, after thinking about it, he relented. Have you ever done that with your children? I know I have.  A product of my paternal genes, I have an almost comical tendency to over-react to … Continue reading Exodus 33-35: Mercy, Not Rejection
