Cleaning Off the Political Smut

So what’s been going on lately?  I haven’t felt the inclination to write…or the gumption to post anything that I  actually pen.  I probably have about ten drafts saved on this blog site…but today it’s finally time to break the silence.

Political Smut

My parents had a colorful term to describe the endless junk mail that clogged the mailbox: smut.  That word was also used to describe the various detritus found in between nasty toes of kids who ran around barefoot all day…not that I would know anything about that, of course.

It’s also the word that came to mind when I saw this despicable campaign ad from Camp Obama:

I wonder what the First Lady thinks about this “pimping” of her husband?  Even if I were a Democrat and not an Independent, I’d be appalled at the content of this ad.  How base must we go in our country? I am insulted as a woman — sexual jokes and innuendo have NO place in civil discourse.  None.  Especially when my thirteen year old daughter happens to see the ad for herself…and thinks it’s kind of cool in that “twisting of the words” kind of way.  Yuck!  I don’t need my daughter thinking about anybody in “that” way, especially grown men who wish to lead our country, yet this ad puts images in her head (and mine) that should NEVER be there. NEVER EVER EVER.  Can you tell I’m angry? Ugh!

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” -Philippians 4:8

This ad undermines the message that my husband and I have taught our daughter: that sex is saved for marriage…not just “the right guy” or “the guy who provides birth control.” It also teaches a message that OTHER PEOPLE are responsible for a person’s choice of birth control.

I’ll be blunt.  If all these young women clamoring for “free” birth control (who do they think pays for it?) would STOP HAVING SEX OUT OF WEDLOCK, they wouldn’t need birth control.  Abstinence is FREE.

Another troubling feature of this campaign ad that pretends to be hip, urban, and smart is a massive grammar error. The woman says that she used to be a girl, but….

“Now I was a woman.”

Yes, I guess you was a woman now that you voting in the electshun.

This kind of campaign smut, along with presidential cursing, makes me impatient for November 7 when the TV, radio, and internet ads stop.  It’s going to be a long couple of weeks.  I’m going to go get a shower now.  Somehow I feel dirty.
