Gen 1-3: Whisper of Discontent

The serpent told Eve exactly what her itching ears wanted to hear. That is the first impression I have after this fresh reading of the story of creation and the fall in the garden. Eve could have had any of the fruit she wanted to eat in that lush paradise.  But instead of focusing on what she could eat….her mind fixated on what she could not eat.  Anybody on a low carb diet faced with the prospect of a warm Krispy Kreme donut can identify with Eve’s feelings!  But that desire is not limited to food, is it?  What about … Continue reading Gen 1-3: Whisper of Discontent

The Challenge of Cultivation

Happy New Year! This year I long to be more faithful in cultivating my relationship with my heavenly Father.  I woke up to a bright new day…a fresh beginning, and suddenly it occurred to me how depressed I have been over the past year or so.  Perhaps it was the death of our beloved Dalmatian, or maybe it has to do with my stumbling forays into directorship of Classical Conversations.  But this morning as I drove back home from Target, listening to U2 on the radio, I noticed how vibrant the colors around me were at the same time that … Continue reading The Challenge of Cultivation

Eager Expectation

Great Health News! The CT scan revealed that my lymph nodes are back to normal.  They were enlarged earlier because they were doing their job…protecting me from infection. The scan also showed scar tissue on my lungs.  The doctor said the scarring was likely from an infection that my body fought off and defeated. This brings to mind those wonderful verses in Psalm 139 (verses 13, 14, CEV) You are the one who put me together inside my mother’s body,14and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me.  Everything you do is marvelous!  Of this I have no doubt.” The God of … Continue reading Eager Expectation

Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me….Healthcare?

Individual liberty is about to take a huge hit in the form of the latest Health Care fiasco. The most appalling fact I have heard to date about the push to pass health care legislation is that our very own elected representatives were banned from participating in the writing of this voluminous document.  Banned!  Simply because they were members of the opposite political party, they were not allowed to give input.  They are thwarted by every turn.  And now this beast of a bill is stupendous in its stupidity — it penalizes those who don’t have health insurance with a … Continue reading Give Me Liberty, Or Give Me….Healthcare?

Victory!

Yesterday, God put a sword in my hand.  He led me into battle against the mightiest foe I could ever face…myself. The dreaded CT scan was the battleground.  His Word was the sword.  And the people He placed in my path strengthened my faith, which had the effect of shoring up my shield. After the horrible CT Scan experience a couple months ago, this repeat scan was hanging over my head like a brick just waiting to fall.  I kept pushing thoughts of it out of the way, but still it hovered, ready to infect my thoughts with dread in … Continue reading Victory!
