Need some of that Living Water

1 Kings 12-14 Today I read about Solomon’s successors and how Israel and Judah split.  Israel decided to follow one King, Jeroboam, and Judah stayed with Solomon’s son Rehoboam.  Both kings were not faithful to the Lord.  Eventually God handed them over to enemies — and the beautiful temple that Solomon built was plundered.  Jeroboam’s son died.  The people began worshipping metal idols and engaging in the detestable behavior that its former occupants had followed. I just don’t understand how a person could think that a god is inside a hunk of metal, no matter how pretty the metal is … Continue reading Need some of that Living Water

Chasing after the wind

Ecclesiastes 7-12 Today was a rare day when I took not one nap, but two!  And I really needed at least three or four.  God is good and gracious and has given us a wonderful Father’s Day.  I got to see my dad at breakfast and enjoy the grill and the pool with my husband and daughter.  Sweet summer indeed. These later chapters in Ecclesiastes shift from an “everything is meaningless” theme to one that stresses the importance of taking joy in the work of our hands for the glory of God. We are warned against worrying about those things … Continue reading Chasing after the wind

Stand Aside

Proverbs 19-21 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD. Those are comforting words!  Tonight I am exhausted after a long but rewarding day at a Classical Conversations Parent Practicum.  I am helping out and gleaning ideas for running my own practicum next week.  I’m in prayer that the Lord will work through these practicums to encourage, edify, and uplift homeschooling families in our community. Yet I am also beating off anxiety and a possible sore throat.  I can’t afford to get sick and pray that the Lord will protect me and work through … Continue reading Stand Aside

Where’s the path?

Proverbs 13-15 A wise person heeds correction and discipline.  It’s all about learning from our mistakes, isn’t it?  I always tell my daughter that it is okay to fail or to make a mistake so long as we learn from it.  If we keep repeating that same mistake over and over again…well, that’s another story. The sermon at church this past Sunday was enlightening and opened my eyes to myself.  I didn’t like what I saw.  It was about defeating the spirit of entitlement in our lives.  As Americans, we have come to expect our privileges as rights.  As churchgoers, … Continue reading Where’s the path?

Go away panic attacks

Proverbs 1-3 Just a quick blog tonight…er…this morning.  We just returned from attending our nephew’s graduation.  It was wonderful seeing family!  Unfortunately, my body betrayed me again, and I ended up with a doozy of a panic attack.  These things usually happen in social situations — maybe I secretly don’t like being on my best behavior?  HaHa!  Seriously, there is a link between them and PMS.  I can go and do and be social — and then all of a sudden I’m bodyslammed with chest pain, tightness, stomach cramps, nausea, trouble swallowing, and the kind of panic that makes my … Continue reading Go away panic attacks
