Do You “Believe In” Evolution?

I was taught in Texas public schools about the THEORY of evolution. The teaching of it included some alternate viewpoints from scientists (not religious viewpoints) that pointed out its weaknesses. For example, there is that annoying absence in the fossil record documenting the supposed evolution of one species to another. Oh, and also the fact that Darwin himself, in his introduction to Origin of Species, concluded this: “I am well aware that there is scarcely a single point discussed in this volume on which facts cannot be adduced (proven, or explained), often apparently leading to conclusions directly opposite to those … Continue reading Do You “Believe In” Evolution?

About Canine Quality of Life

A quick post today because it’s Monday and we ‘ve got to get busy with homeschool! About the Dog At the vet on Friday, we learned that there are three main components to a “quality of life assessment.”  What that means in people-speak is that there are three questions to ask when trying to determine when it might be necessary to say goodbye to your pet. Is the pet still affectionate, and does the pet recognize members of the family? For us, that answer is a solid YES.  The pet in question follows me around like a, well, like the … Continue reading About Canine Quality of Life

I’m Pooped Out

A gross title for a gross subject. I can’t do this anymore.  I have lost count of the number of towels my dog has soiled so badly that I just threw them away instead of washing them in the machine.  Last night when I took him out I accidentally stepped in some and tracked it in the house before I knew it.  So there I was at 11 p.m., vacuuming the carpet, cleaning up stains, and mopping the floors in the family room and kitchen with an antibacterial disinfectant. This morning I was greeted with a noxious odor that I … Continue reading I’m Pooped Out

A Call to Serve…And a Doggy Update

Me? Make a decision? The powers-that-be who presented me with a jury summons obviously don’t know the first thing about my strange decision-making processes. Today, for example, instead of deciding what to wear, I just wore the t-shirt I slept in and pulled on a pair of knit pants with lovely discolorations from a bad tumble with bleach. I also impulsively called the groomer this morning because I suddenly realized I could no longer see my little dog’s puppy eyes underneath all the fur. I make disorganized decisions that often have no bearing on logic but I make them because … Continue reading A Call to Serve…And a Doggy Update

My doggy’s end is near

My dear sweet Doggy Boy, What am I going to do with you? Do you feel the pain that fills my heart when I look at you this moment? I watched you try to find a comfortable spot on the old blanket at my feet. I cringed to hear your moans as you flopped onto your side. It’s getting harder and harder for you to stand up once you are down. Sometimes we have to help you up, and that makes you mad. I know, sweetie. That would make me, mad, too. You have a sore on your foot because … Continue reading My doggy’s end is near
