Ye Olde Apple Tree

Notice any family resemblance in these photos?  The first was taken way back in the Stone Age, sometime around 1984.  Remember 1984?  Here’s a bit of a flashback: Where’s the Beef? Apple Macintosh sold its first computer for $2495. One gallon of gas cost, on average, $1.19 Michael Jackson, hair on fire The Cosby Show #1 Song, “Owner of a Lonely Heart” And…not the least, your very own Everfaith, smiling in her thirteen year old glory. I kept a scrapbook for every year of school, from seventh grade all the way to graduation.  I dug out my seventh grade scrapbook … Continue reading Ye Olde Apple Tree

In the Quiet

The quiet moves in on soft kitten feet as I close and lock the door and watch the taillights fade away. My daughter and husband are on their way to school and to work, and I am left alone to complete my household chores, in quiet. Oh, how my soul rejoices and soaks in the sounds of solitude. Soft, downy pillows surround my heart when I have a few moments with the house to myself. I can be me with no pressure to be someone I am not.  I love my family fiercely but find angst in my heart because … Continue reading In the Quiet

Overcoming Shutter Stutter

Tomorrow my photography class is taking a field trip to practice getting shots of architecture.  I’m excited about the opportunity to shoot lines, angles, and interesting elements. Yet I still have not even started taking portraits, which was last week’s assignment.  My consternation is I want to be artistic as I compose portraits. I’d like to use candlelight, Rembrandt lighting (where part of the face is in shadow), framing the face, shooting from below, shooting from above, profiles, focusing in on just the eyes, focusing in on just the hands, etc.  My ideas spill over but my gumption slides down … Continue reading Overcoming Shutter Stutter

Climbing Mt. Laundry

(Warning: If you are my mother, do NOT read this post lest you worry needlessly about me.  I will be okay.  You have been warned.) ________________ I want to write today about mental illness.  The Christians I’ve known in my life never really discussed mental illness.  It has always been one of those things that we sort of think exists but deep down believe that if a person will just “get a grip,” “grow up,” “put on the big girl pants,” “trust Jesus,” or “relax,” then it will all go away.  It’s all in the mind, and if your mind … Continue reading Climbing Mt. Bella’s will

On Sunday my husband conquered knee and achilles injuries and ran the race of a lifetime in Rome, Italy.  He finished 26.2 miles in a little under 4:50. I am so proud of him and wish more than anything that I could have been there to welcome him across the finish line.  I heard he had a great celebration afterwards with some authentic, homemade Italian veal and pasta, so maybe he didn’t miss me too much! Especially since I’ve never made him veal — ever — in seventeen years of marriage.  I just have a thing for babies, I guess. … Continue reading Bella’s will
