Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

For the first time in my short life, someone has pointedly made fun of my faith. That’s a pretty sad state of affairs, considering that I have been a Christian for the past twenty five years. Writing this blog has been the first public foray I have delved into as far as sharing my faith. I’ve talked to my students about my faith (in a private school) and to my family, but I’ve never been one to strike up a conversation with the sweet man who bags my groceries. I tend to shy away from confrontations because they make me … Continue reading Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

Springtime Gardening

Last Thursday was the first day of spring, which just happens to be my favorite season of the year. It’s a time of new birth and new beginnings. One of my greatest frustrations when we lived in Maryland was that spring came so late in the year compared to Texas. I’m looking outside right now at a bush that has burst into bloom. The Bradford Pear trees have already flowered and are covered with beautiful leaves. The dead grass is daily being replaced with new growth. This is the time of year when my nose runs and my soul soars, … Continue reading Springtime Gardening

Huckabee’s Last Stand…in Faith

It’s almost spring in Texas! The grass is getting green around the edges of sidewalks and houses, trees and shrubs are beginning to bloom, and tulips are popping up all over the place. On Saturday the weather was so warm we needed sunscreen to be outdoors! But this is, after all, Texas, and that means that nothing is predictable about the weather. After a very warm weekend, Monday began with a boom as severe storms swept through the region, leaving behind downed … Continue reading Huckabee’s Last Stand…in Faith

His Glory

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:35, 37 There is an intense spiritual battle being waged in the world.  Our own land of the free is fast becoming anything but free for those of us who proclaim Christ.  Make no mistake about it…the enemy thinks he is winning.  In less than half a century, the morals of our culture have become twisted and upside down, and many … Continue reading His Glory

Conservatives, Have Faith!

My nine year old daughter wrote a beautiful essay about faith yesterday…. Yesterday, before Governor Romney dropped out of the race.  Before Dr. James Dobson endorsed Mike Huckabee for president.  Before the momentum behind Mike Huckabee rose up and up and up, as blogs on his website kept getting more and more comments and the ticker showing the money raised for the campaign kept getting higher and higher. Indeed, faith is believing in something that is unseen…it is believing in our God and trusting him to preserve us and our nation.  From Hebrews 11 we learn that: 1Now faith is … Continue reading Conservatives, Have Faith!
