Heart Trouble

Corruption? That’s a heart problem. Pork-barrel politics? Another heart problem. Inability to vote yes or no, only present? Yup, a heart problem. Name-calling? Heart problem. Stagnation and indecision? Heart problem. Greed? Heart problem. Now is the time for Christians to band together in one body to pray like we’ve never prayed before. It is way past time for us to pray for our President, our Presidential candidates, our congressmen, our senators, their aides and assistants, the President’s cabinet, leaders on Wall Street, leaders on Main Street, and each other. This fiasco has gone way beyond who will get elected this … Continue reading Heart Trouble

Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

For the first time in my short life, someone has pointedly made fun of my faith. That’s a pretty sad state of affairs, considering that I have been a Christian for the past twenty five years. Writing this blog has been the first public foray I have delved into as far as sharing my faith. I’ve talked to my students about my faith (in a private school) and to my family, but I’ve never been one to strike up a conversation with the sweet man who bags my groceries. I tend to shy away from confrontations because they make me … Continue reading Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

Are we sleeping?

Yesterday a reader of my blog left a comment that made me realize I have been sleeping, especially as regards my eagerness to accept everything said during the Saddleback forum as truth.  Even though I appreciated Senator McCain’s apparent integrity, that has now come into question at least with one of his comments.  Remember the statement he made about Congress’ wasteful spending and how it spent $3 million of our taxdollars to study bear DNA?  He forgot to tell us that he did, in fact, vote for it! Just goes to show that the “trust…but verify” axiom applies not just … Continue reading Are we sleeping?

A Conservative’s Reaction to the Values Forum

For the first time in any election in my lifetime, I feel as if I have been given a glimpse into the two remaining candidates not as the media paints them, but as they are. Last night I watched the Saddleback Church’s forum and came away from the experience having a much better insight into the people behind the political personas. Of course, I’m sure both their answers were part-spin, part-truth. But because both candidates were given the same questions, we can truly compare apples to apples. And compare I did. I even took notes because I wanted to make … Continue reading A Conservative’s Reaction to the Values Forum

Huckabillys, Unite!

Most polls show Mike Huckabee behind McCain, Romney and Giuliani in Florida, but he is second in nation-wide polling (see Real Clear Politics, here). You won’t hear that on most news networks. The fact that his underfunded campaign is still going strong is a testimony to the strong grassroots support he has. My mother has given me a new nickname: Huckabilly. I’m not really a hillbilly — there’s not a hill within 100 miles of where I live on the prairie — but I do believe Governor Huckabee is the best choice for our nation. Today I have become a … Continue reading Huckabillys, Unite!
