Fall Reflections on Election Eve

One the eve of tomorrow’s election for our country’s leaders, I pause to reflect on the heavenly government that is to come.

His government and its peace
will never end.
He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David
for all eternity.
Isaiah 9

The Lord on High is on his throne this evening…he will not step down. He will not sleep. The earth and all that is in it rejoices and rests in the sheer majesty of our Mighty God.

You will live in joy and peace.
The mountains and hills will burst into song,
and the trees of the field will clap their hands!
Isaiah 55

No matter which way our paths lead us, we know that our God holds them all in the palm of his hand.

Because of God’s tender mercy,

the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us,[a]to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
and to guide us to the path of peace.
Luke 1

And though the hardships we encounter may leave us scarred, God himself tenderly cares for us.  He promises to restore our health.

The Lord will guide you continually,
giving you water when you are dry
and restoring your strength.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like an ever-flowing spring.
Isaiah 58

Along the way we realize that God has done such wonderful things for us.  Our future is assured!  We know the final score.  Such knowledge is too wonderful not to share!

We were filled with laughter,
and we sang for joy.
And the other nations said,
“What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”
Yes, the Lord has done amazing things for us!
What joy!
Psalm 126

Indeed, what joy we really have!
