Jeremiah 30-31
Hope for the future is set out in these chapters. The message the Lord gave Jeremiah went from one of woe and destruction to one of hope for those who turn back to the Lord.
Jeremiah dreamed some of the message, and he wrote that his sleep was sweet. No wonder! His sleep until this time was filled with destruction! How refreshing it must have been to hear of a brand new covenant promised from the Lord…a covenant that we know was fulfilled in Christ:
“33 “But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel on that day,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
The Holy Spirit writes instructions in our hearts, counsels us, and shows us the way we should go!
What way should I go today? Will I see another homeless person along the road who needs a cup of cool water? Lord, please give me a willing heart. Write your words — those words that matter so much to you — on my heart. Help me be the person you created me to be so I can do the jobs you have set down in front of me. May your covenant be my heart’s reality.
