Job 40-42:God Drives the Bus

Welcome to day 15 of my personal Bible Reading and Blogging Challenge.  I’ve worked my way partway through Genesis before jumping over to Job, following a Chronological reading plan, and tonight I finished reading the book of Job. It certainly ended on a high note!  After hearing from God himself, Job finally did step up and confess, God forgave his friends, and then the Lord gave Job everything back that he had lost…and then some.  He had more children and grandchildren and lived another 140 years to a ripe old age. Job said, “I admit I once lived by rumors … Continue reading Job 40-42:God Drives the Bus

Job 38-39:God’s Power Unleashed

One of the most incredible miracles known the mankind are the kind that happen to those who belong to Christ when they are pressed beyond comprehension.  In the midst of all the horrible images of broken bodies and crumbled buildings in Haiti is a haunting one of people walking hand in hand in the streets, singing hymns to the Lord.  HYMNS!  In the middle of the dust and panic, there were people singing praises to the Lord on High. I have a friend who is stranded in Haiti.  She went on what was supposed to be a 4-day mission trip, … Continue reading Job 38-39:God’s Power Unleashed

Job 35-37: Straight Talk

Elihu reminds me of a friend I have who always tells it like it is.  She is blunt and straightforward, and I absolutely love her for it.  She must be strong in the spiritual gift of discernment, because she can cut through nonsense like a warm knife through butter. It is interesting to me that the younger Elihu — not the windbaggy friends — is the one who speaks to Job immediately prior to God speaking to Job.  The order is significant.  Oftentimes the Lord sends people or circumstances to soften our hearts to truths we need to hear, doesn’t … Continue reading Job 35-37: Straight Talk

Not about Job

Today was a long day with our Classical Conversations homeschooling group.  I’m tired and grumpy and just want to go to bed.  So Job will just have to wait until after I get a bath! The discouraging news I received today is another in my health odyssey.  It seems that the CT scans that I have had showed some scar tissue on the upper regions of both lungs.  When I got home today, there was a message on my voice mail from a pulminologist’s office.  Apparently the oncologist referred me to the pulminologist for further ???? I’m sick of the … Continue reading Not about Job

Job 32-34: Elihu weighs in

Elihu is filled with righteous indignation at Job’s complaints against God.  And he makes a lot of sense in his arguments! I especially liked these verses: It’s impossible for God to do anything evil; no way can the Mighty One do wrong. He makes us pay for exactly what we’ve done—no more, no less. Our chickens always come home to roost. It’s impossible for God to do anything wicked, for the Mighty One to subvert justice. He’s the one who runs the earth! He cradles the whole world in his hand! If he decided to hold his breath, every man, … Continue reading Job 32-34: Elihu weighs in
