Fixing My Eyes

This morning in church after worship, the pastor exhorted us with a phrase from Hebrews 12 I’ve heard so often that it usually skims over my head and drips down to the floor without me even noticing.  But today I heard these words with clarity and what felt like a bolt of lightning piercing my awareness: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” The Author of My Faith. The faith that I have in the Lord was written by Jesus.  That’s what an author does.  He holds the pen…my faith life is the … Continue reading Fixing My Eyes

The Box

There are some things in life that are so painful that we wrap them up in a tight box and put them away on a shelf at the very back of our hearts.  We get cluttered in our minds and in our lives — and, to some degree the more cluttered things are, the easier it is to cope with everyday life because the groaning contained in the tiny box is drowned out by the clamor of busyness. Since I began homeschooling seven years ago, I’ve held on to every scrap of curriculum I ever bought.  I passed up opportunities … Continue reading The Box

Kennel Cough Is The Pits

Tracheobronchitis is the name for kennel cough, and it is the reason my doggy girl is feeling poorly.  Her heart sounds great, thankfully.  She “performed” very well at the vet, coughing loudly from the moment we entered until they quickly ushered us into a private room so as to limit the spread.  Now she will be the most pampered pet in the world.  My husband went out today and bought her a brand new bed, new toys, and bigger food and water bowls.  She’ll need them…at 49 pounds and growing, her puppy bowls are no longer adequate. She will … Continue reading Kennel Cough Is The Pits

Worry Wart

Rainbows are wonderful to ponder.  Their colors are vibrant, and they whisper a promise from the Father that bad times do get better.  This, too, shall pass. It’s the passing part that has me feeling like a worry wart. My baby dog Bella is very sick, and I don’t want her to pass, not now, not when she’s only six months old!  While we cavorted in the Outer Banks, she lost weight at the kennel.  Now she is coughing up mucus.  Every time she moves, she coughs, and it’s getting worse.  At the back of my mind, I’ve wondered about … Continue reading Worry Wart

Journey To The Outer Banks

Breathtaking, isn’t it? Last week was full of breathtaking moments as my family and I embarked on a journey to Hatteras, North Carolina, on the southernmost tip of the Outer Banks…accessible by car, that is. What a journey it was! First came the air travel and the obligatory panic attack.  I’m so used to panic attacks at airports that you’d think by now I could ignore them completely.  Nope.  The anxiety and agitation reached a peak, and my poor husband just didn’t know what to do with the blubbering mass of (quiet) hysterics that had become his wife.  I inhaled … Continue reading Journey To The Outer Banks
