Sibling Rivalry

W-O-W.  That’s my overall impression today after beginning Beth Moore’s James Mercy Triumphs Bible Study.  It has been at least six years since I participated in a formal Bible Study.  Then I started homeschooling, and the clock grew wings and flew right out the window.  I did my own study these past two years, reading the Bible through chronologically, and I’m not going to stop doing that because there is value in looking at the big picture. Every time I read a passage, the words on the page just come alive, and I find new insights.  When I participate in … Continue reading Sibling Rivalry

Jabba the Couch

From the looks of things, I am greatly improved, and my surgery was even more transforming than I thought possible! Princess Lea and I do have chains in common.  Although I’m thankfully not dealing with Jabba the Hut in my recovery, I do sometimes feel chained to Jabba the Couch.  Today I ventured off the couch for awhile, but I think I did too much.  Even if I have to say down all day tomorrow to pay for today, it felt freeing to: fold some clothes microwave my own lunch mix and bake (and eat) cookies clean up the cookie … Continue reading Jabba the Couch

A Lounge Lizard’s Reality

This is the Lounge Lizard, checking in fifteen days post-hysterectomy.  Don’t I look marvelous?  That surgery was truly transformational! I am doing well.  Still tired and occasionally achey, but rejoicing that I will never again have back labor pain every month.  I’m rejoicing that my chronic back pain is now intermittent, my complexion is great now that my skin isn’t oily anymore, and I finally put on makeup for the first time since my surgery.  Yesterday morning we had our family interview at the university-model school we’d like to enroll our daughter in come January.  It was my second outing … Continue reading A Lounge Lizard’s Reality

Detailing my dream school

If the country decided to make me the Education Guru Extraordinaire, I would make some mighty drastic changes to the current public education system, and I would start with removing the word “system” from the mentality. Children are not products produced in a factory.  Yet today’s methodology of education assumes that the students are the products.  Teachers are the factory workers, shaping the products.  Administrators are the managers deciding what shapes the products should become. Every product is given precisely thirteen years to maturate. The products pass quality inspections each year until finally they are stamped and herded out the … Continue reading Detailing my dream school

The Fly on the Wall

I just watched Newt Gingrich’s speech at Friday night’s GOP fundraiser.  I’m so thankful for technology that allows me to be the proverbial fly on the wall at these events. I am more convinced than ever that Newt’s intelligence, wit, experience, dignity and classiness will help bring our nation back from the brink. I’m really impressed that he spent time complimenting his fellow competitors (not opponents.) The media will continue to ignore him until he shoots up in the polls, so educate yourself on what he — and the other candidates — stand for. Here’s the clip so you can … Continue reading The Fly on the Wall
