Birth pains

Some of my readers have recently condemned me as a Christian for posting the YouTube video entitled Dear Mr. Obama. These are people who believe that the Iraq war was a huge mistake and want our troops pulled home now. They support Obama because he did not support the war. They challenged me to think about what Jesus would have done if he was here in this time, in this place. What would Jesus do? First of all, the Lord chose the exact time and place for Jesus to be revealed. He came at a time when the Jews were … Continue reading Birth pains

Charity

The word used for “love” in much of the Bible is also translated as “charity” in the English language.  My father used to call me a “bleeding heart” when I was a teen in angst.  I have not lost my compassion for the poor or the call on my life to live out my faith in the service of others.  You see, every penny we “have” is not our own.  The money in my pocket is actually the Lord’s money, and I strive to make choices such that he will say, one day when I stand before him, “well done, … Continue reading Charity

‘Punished with a pregnancy’

Boy, in these days of video cameras attached to cell phones, nothing anyone says is hidden. It reminds me of what Jesus said about nothing being hidden, from Luke 8, verse 17: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. First he qualified his answer saying that he would teach them about morals and values, but then he … Continue reading ‘Punished with a pregnancy’

The Question of When Life Begins

When does life begin? This is the question Pastor Rick Warren put to both Senator McCain and Senator Obama. Obama cited the complexity of the question and said the answer was above his paygrade. McCain quickly answered, “at conception.” Obama then said that those of us who believe life begins at conception have a fundamental difference of opinion than he does and that we would never agree. He went on to suggest that we could find things we have in common and work together to reduce the number of abortions. Today I’ve been musing specifically about when life begins. Is … Continue reading The Question of When Life Begins

Of Messes and Mercy

After seeing this mess in my bathroom, I felt a good dose of wrath building up inside me at my dog. This disaster was made by the same dog who was sick last week. He is still recovering from his illness but obviously felt well enough to tear into his bed in the middle of the night! It makes me suspicious that the “suspicious spot” in his stomach might have been a piece of memory foam…I love this goofy dog, but honestly! I have cleaned up his vomit and diarrhea and washed blankets and bleached the floor and petted him … Continue reading Of Messes and Mercy
