Traversing rough roadways

John 2-4 There are times in my life when the road ahead seems impossible; today was such a day.  We enjoyed homeschool day in Houston immensely; however, the thought of the five hour drive ahead of me made my already aching back protest loudly. Now I am home and feel like kissing the floor!   We had a smooth, uneventful trip.  My back pain wasn’t pleasant, but God provided some incredible handiwork on the highways to help distract me!  (The heated seats help an aching back, too!)  I spied mile after mile of knee-high grasses topped with purplish blooms.  A … Continue reading Traversing rough roadways

Double Edged Sword

Matthew 4, Luke 4-5, John 1:15-51 People were beginning to feel Jesus and his power. After his trial in the wilderness, Jesus emerged full of the Holy Spirit. How we respond to hard times in our lives determines whether we emerge as Jesus did — victorious or beaten. So how can we walk out on the other side of our deserts filled with the Lord’s power working in us? Jesus faced temptations…so do we. He smacked them down by the power of the Word of God. It is interesting that Satan didn’t argue once Jesus spoke the truth. Instead he … Continue reading Double Edged Sword

Raining Healing

Matthew 3, Luke 3, Mark 1 Today I read about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. John the Baptist prepared the way for the people, and Jesus began with mercy by healing the sick. The first thing he did after calling the fishermen to be fishers of men was to heal a member of their family. How comforting to know that Jesus was and is given authority to heal! I found out today that I have fibromyalgia. The good news is that the Lord will heal me…and the doctor has some definite ideas about how to make me feel better: rest, … Continue reading Raining Healing

How He Loves Us

Matthew 2; Luke 2:39-end When Jesus was 12 years old, his wisdom and understanding of the Scriptures completely amazed the religious leaders of his day. My own daughter will be 12 soon.  She amazes her teachers and is a delight to teach…how much more delightful must it have been for the student Jesus to teach the teachers in those days! If I had a time machine, I would definitely go back to the time when our Lord walked this earth.  To sit at His feet would make everything else pale in comparison.  No trial that I am going through can … Continue reading How He Loves Us

Staying afloat

Matthew 1; Luke 2:1-38 The prophets Simeon and Anna saw Jesus as a newborn baby and proclaimed His destiny right there in the temple.  All newborns are special and have a heavenly smell, don’t they?  I have a difficult time imagining our Savior as a helpless newborn…yet He was!  It doesn’t matter what I can or can’t imagine.  Our ways are NOT the Lord’s ways. Today has been a tough day…in fact, this has been a very difficult stretch of time over the past couple of weeks.  I feel somewhat like the captain of a sinking ship.  Yet I remember … Continue reading Staying afloat
