Bellyaching

So tonight I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a few things for the week.  While I was there, I started feeling slightly sick.  The sight of food began to be nauseating, which is not a good thing to experience right smack dab in the middle of the grocery store when you are surrounded by food.  I felt bad enough that the panic attack set in (it doesn’t take much to get that going in me).  There was just one thing on my mind: Get. Home. Now. Somehow God got me through it.  Here I am at home, … Continue reading Bellyaching

A whole bag of woes

Isaiah 5-8 It looks like I may miss church again tomorrow, and that makes me sad.  I really feel a difference in my spirit when I miss out on corporate worship.  I hope we’ll be able to worship together as a family…the Lord is here with me, and I can worship him with all my heart, right here, right now. I wish I could travel back in time and hear Isaiah up close and personal.  He was so bold in his pronouncements…and to know what I know now, about the conception and birth of Jesus, when Isaiah predicted by the … Continue reading A whole bag of woes

Willing and obedient

Isaiah 1-4 If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land; 20 but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. Now that’s a clear mandate, isn’t it?  Be willing and obedient.  We expect our children to be obedient…are we obedient to our heavenly Father?  Earlier in that passage God tells us to learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. [a] Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow. I just read another news article today about this … Continue reading Willing and obedient

The battle of the dollhouse

2Kings  15; 2Chronicles 26 Today I read about King Uzziah (also known as Azariah) of Judah.  The Bible records that he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, for the most part.  He became very powerful through the word of the Lord.  He consulted the Lord through Zechariah.  He built large defensive towers and even engineered new weapons that threw stones and arrows from up high.  Yet what he is most remembered for are not his many accomplishments or his long reign as king (fifty-two years).  Instead, he is remembered for his pride and his audacity. Uzziah … Continue reading The battle of the dollhouse

Untangling the vine

Jonah For the first time, I think I finally understand the lesson the Lord was trying to teach Jonah, and me, through the vine. Jonah found a place to stake out the city of Ninevah.  He wanted to see what God would do to the place.  It was hot, and God sent a vine to grow beside Jonah’s spot to provide him with shade.  Jonah was happy about that vine. The next day, God sent a worm to eat the vine.  Jonah no longer had its sheltering shade.  He missed it! Then God told him that just as he, Jonah, … Continue reading Untangling the vine
