Fortifying the walls

2 Kings 14; 2 Chronicles 25 The war between Israel and Judah continued through my reading tonight.  The King of Judah became arrogant and challenged the King of Israel to a fight…the King of Israel warned him as did a prophet sent by the Lord, but Judah did not listen. Tonight I feel as if I’m fighting fires all over the place.  The walls around my house seem to be crumbling much like those of Jerusalem in today’s reading.  I have two specific prayer needs: First, my husband’s grandmother, who is 96, fell out of her bed last night and … Continue reading Fortifying the walls

Mentors needed

2 Kings 12-13; 2 Chronicles 24 Seven-year-old Joash followed the Lord for a very long time…as long as Jehoida the priest was alive and mentoring him.  But after Jeohoida died (at the ripe old age of 130!), Joash turned back to idolatry…his country was overtaken by enemies…and he ended up murdered in his own bed. Learning from Elisha

2 Kings 5-8 Tonight I read more about Elisha and the miracles that he performed.  I’m still tired and facing internal battles…but I do take hope from these words that Elisha told his servant who saw the enemy approaching: Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed that God would open his servant’s eyes so he could discern the spiritual battle around him…in that moment, he saw what God saw…a vast army of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha. There have been times in my life when … Continue reading Learning from Elisha

Battling the evil burger

2 Kings 1-4 Tonight I’ve been reading about the prophet Elisha, who followed in Elijah’s footsteps.  It seems to me that Elisha was more of a prophet who served individual people.  The Lord used Elijah to perform huge miracles that everyone could see.  But Elisha helped individuals. In fact, I’m struck by the story I just read of Elisha feeding a hundred people from just twenty loaves of bread.  He told his helpers to feed the men, saying: For this is what the LORD says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’ ” 44 Then he set it before them, … Continue reading Battling the evil burger
