Random Friday

And now, for something completely different… Happy 43rd Anniversary to my parents!  Theirs is a “made in Hollywood” love story: Smalltown Texas girl graduates high school.  Girl travels to California for a graduation trip.  Girl meets boy.  Two weeks later, boy proposes.  One week later, girl marries boy, moves to California. Two people who had nothing but love formed a bond that endures today.  May you have many more long years together! To celebrate their anniversary, I’m going to get my hair cut.  Well, maybe not for celebratory purposes.  Actually, if I don’t have someone else do it, I will … Continue reading Random Friday

No Greater Love

No Greater Love by EverFaith September 11, 2011 An innocent morning Crisp azure expanse welcomed  A new day Then…a frantic phone call The chilling click of a remote The horror as one accident Became four violent attacks. A dash to grab groceries Everyone buying bread Empty shelves reflecting Unbelieving hearts asking, “Dear God, what’s next?” As we held our breath collectively Afraid to hope for peace. A kaleidoscope of color Captured the attention, Crimson roses on the roadside Seemed brighter while the Sky expanded bluely In the absence of sound, The void of flight. A wall of pictures, a vigil, … Continue reading No Greater Love

Breaking the Rules

Confession time.  I am a rule-follower.  This attribute made me popular with my teachers when I was a child..but not necessarily with my friends. :0)  Give me a list to check off, a procedure to follow, and a ruler to measure, and I am a happy girl. Have you people tried driving the speed limit on I-45 … Continue reading Breaking the Rules

Live Bait and Hamburgers

One of the perks of living so close to the boondocks is the delight we experience in finding the wackiest road sign advertisements.  Last weekend’s road trip took us to the winding roads in deep northeast Texas.   Besides Live Bait and Hamburgers, we were invited to try Antique Hamburgers as well as a Taxidermy and Pet Resort.  (I promise, I am not making this up!) I was thrilled to meet family members from my dad’s side of the family who I had not yet met…two aunts and their respective families, including cousins. I learned my mom almost fell off … Continue reading Live Bait and Hamburgers

Saying goodbye..and hello

Today marked an end of an era as the last space shuttle mission punched through the confines of earth, never to rise again.  It was also the end of an era for the 30,000 people who worked in some capacity with the space shuttle and are now scrambling to find new employment. It’s the end of an era, also, for America’s shuttle astronauts and their families. My husband moved to the Houston area when he was seven because his father, my father-in-law, had been selected to be an astronaut candidate.  When my husband was 12, he witnessed his father rocket … Continue reading Saying goodbye..and hello
