America the Beautiful

I am overwhelmed with gratitude this day. Our country is unique in our graceful and peaceful transfer of power…as our leaders pass the baton according to the votes of the American people. There are no rioters in the streets on this day after the election. Those of us who supported McCain now turn our hearts to the good of our country and acknowledge that God’s plans are higher and loftier than anything we can possibly fathom. ‘Dare to do our duty’

My daughter and I are swimming in a world full of stories of political back-biting, Republicans hating their own office-holder, Democrats bashing the President, the press bashing the President, a very unpopular war (what war is popular, by the way?), states rights vs. federal control, the haves and the have-nots.  No, we’re not talking about the current political scene on the trail end of the Bush Presidency, although we could be.  We’re learning about the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln. Heart Trouble

Corruption? That’s a heart problem. Pork-barrel politics? Another heart problem. Inability to vote yes or no, only present? Yup, a heart problem. Name-calling? Heart problem. Stagnation and indecision? Heart problem. Greed? Heart problem. Now is the time for Christians to band together in one body to pray like we’ve never prayed before. It is way past time for us to pray for our President, our Presidential candidates, our congressmen, our senators, their aides and assistants, the President’s cabinet, leaders on Wall Street, leaders on Main Street, and each other.
