UPDATE: The problem of Mexican cartels using OUR national parks to grow their drugs is more profound than I thought. After posting this blog, I saw that FoxNews had this story on the problem — and on how these cartels are re-routing water from our streams, dumping illegal pesticides in our streams, and polluting OUR lands. ACK!!
Today’s Dallas Morning News had a two paragraph brief about an incident well within the United States borders…up in Nevada, to be exact…that has my blood alternately boiling and chilling.
Tuesday afternoon, scientists with the Bureau of Land Management were conducting a stream survey in a remote area of northern Nevada — on public (that’s taxpayer-owned) lands — when they stumbled into a marijuana garden. The people running the garden were not California hippies. Nope. They weren’t even U.S. citizens. They were members of a Mexican drug cartel, and they held the three biologists at gunpoint for several minutes before forcing them to walk off in the opposite direction. Two had handguns, and a third had a rifle with a scope. It seems there were more cartel members in the direction the biologists had been walking. Several hours later the biologists were picked up by a search and rescue party.
Authorities waited until the next day before approaching the area. Of course, the armed cartel members were not going to wait around for the police to arrive and had scattered. Over $5 million dollars worth of marijuana plants were confiscated, and the BLM warned people to be careful.
“Basically, any area that is out of the way and has water could be potentially a place for people to grow a pot garden.”
You can read the entire story here. The amazing thing to me is not that someone was growing marijuana plants but that the someones doing it were not just illegals — they were part of the Mexican drug cartel. The same cartel that is killing people by the thousands and has hijacked the Mexican government and law enforcement. Now they are muscling in on our territory, threatening our citizens, growing illegal plants on taxpayer lands, and taxpayers are urged to “exercise caution” while traversing their own lands.
Where is the outrage?
Hey McCain — what would you do about this? Is this evidence enough to you that our public safety is in danger until our borders are made secure? Hey Obama — what would you do about this? What will you do to keep these dangerous criminals off our lands?
Today my quiet time led me to some pretty tough chapters in Jeremiah. God is warning the inhabitants of Babylon that they are about to be invaded and destroyed. There is hope for the enslaved nation of Israel — they are told to flee, to find Jerusalem. The state of my heart as I read this morning was upset and worried…worried about the ecocomy…worried about the socialist empire that Obama wants to set up…worried about the fumbling McCain campaign…worried about Governor Palin and the ethics investigation that says she did abuse her power…and then these words leaped out from the page, and I took a big breath:
…I will appoint the leader of my choice. For who is like me, and who can challenge me? What ruler can oppose my will?
-Jeremiah 51:44
God is sovereign. He is in control. I must put my trust in HIM and not in any political leader or political party. Who, indeed, can challenge God and win?
Not Obama. Now he may not be challenging God personally, but Louis Farrakhan, Muslim leader, is. Louis Farrakhan believes that Obama is “the savior.”
Don’t take my word for it. See it for yourself:
But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. You happily put up with whatever anyone tells you, even if they preach a different Jesus than the one we preach, or a different kind of Spirit than the one you received, or a different kind of gospel than the one you believed. 2 Cor 11
Those false teachers are so eager to win your favor, but their intentions are not good. They are trying to shut you off from me so that you will pay attention only to them. Gal 4:17
Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet[a] acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here. But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. Those people belong to this world, so they speak from the world’s viewpoint, and the world listens to them. But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception. 1 John 4
‘Nuff said.
My husband listens to talk radio (Rush, Beck, Hannity) and is always coming home with stories like this one. Some involve Mexican military crossing the boarder and doing stuff. I can’t remember exactly the stories, but they were doozies.
But, like you said, no one really reports this stuff. I just don’t get it!
