EverFaith Again

Announcement:  The Happy Dance has officially commenced.  A Methodist church in the area voted tonight to allow our Classical Conversations Community to use their building at a price we can afford…FREE!! And now back to our regularly scheduled programming… Esther 1-5 I didn’t need to read these chapters tonight because I just read them with my daughter this week.  She has been cast as Queen Esther in a church production; we read the entire book of Esther this week to help her get into character… One of the things we LOVED about this book is how delightfully ironic the Lord … Continue reading EverFaith Again

NeverFaith

I’m beginning to think that I am a fair weather friend to God.  When life throws punches, I want to duck, crawl under the covers, and go to sleep until the prizefighter goes away.  I want the Lord to fix everything for me…but he doesn’t.  At least not Right.Now. Perhaps this blog would be better titled “NeverFaith” rather than “EverFaith,” at least today.  I am at the bottom of a pit.  Eighty people are depending on me to do something that I don’t know how to do.  Even if I knew how to do it, I don’t WANT to do … Continue reading NeverFaith

Learning to trust and getting out of His way

Zechariah 8-14 This book finishes up with more “End Times” prophesies.  I wonder how much contact these Old Testament prophets had with one another?  At any rate, there are similarities among them.  For one thing, fresh water will one day flow out of Jerusalem and empty into the Dead Sea, turning it alive again.  The sun, moon and stars will no longer shine…but Zechariah adds another detail: even though the sun, moon and stars will not shine, there will still be light!  How can this be?  Apparently the Glory of the Lord shines everywhere. Wouldn’t you like to be just … Continue reading Learning to trust and getting out of His way

The sky is falling!

Zechariah 1-7 I don’t know that I’ve ever studied this book in the Bible before…but it is chock full of images and visions of horses, chariots, olive trees, and more.  I confess I don’t understand much of it.  At one point in Zechariah 3, the Lord tells him about the Branch he will send soon.  At first I thought that was referring to Jesus, but then in the sixth chapter Zechariah is told to make a crown from some of the returned gold and place it on the head of the son of the high priest…whose name was Jeshua.  So … Continue reading The sky is falling!

Get to Work!

Haggai The captives of Israel in Babylon did not really “get it” at first when the Lord told them it was time to go rebuild the temple.  They had built up new lives for themselves and their families.  But God sent a message to them through the prophet Haggai that sparked obedience in the governor of Judea, the high priest, and the people.  So they began to rebuild the temple, with the Lord’s blessing. God greatly encouraged  them, Be strong, all you people still left in the land. And now get to work, for I am with you, says the … Continue reading Get to Work!
