Finding rest and strength

Isaiah 40-43 I wish I could just post all of those four chapters on this blog.  Go read them, and take comfort from their prophetic words.  It is amazing to see the prophesies about Jesus…and to read the ones about what is to come for us one day. I got good news from the oncologist today!  I found out that my IgM numbers, although high, are not monoclonal.  Apparently, if I had macroglobulinemia, my body would be producing only one type of IgM in high numbers.  The doctor has followed me for a year now, and my numbers continue to … Continue reading Finding rest and strength

Handing over the battle

Isaiah 37-39; Psalm 76 King Hezekiah reminded the Lord about the insults spoken about Him by Senncherib in this prayer: 6 “O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. 17 Give ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see; listen to all the words Sennacherib has sent to insult the living God.18 “It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands. 19 They have thrown their gods into the fire … Continue reading Handing over the battle

The dragon slayer

Isaiah 35-36 I wonder at the structure of the book of Isaiah.  We jumped from descriptions of heaven — the joy of the redeemed — to the taunts of the field commander for the King of Assyria. No doubt about it…those in Jerusalem were in dire straits.  Yet they trusted the Lord, and they trusted their king despite the fact that no other nation or god had been able to withstand the might of the Assyrians. I know what comes next in the story.  It was featured very dramatically in the children’s novel, The God King.  This book was a … Continue reading The dragon slayer

Stable Foundations

Isaiah 31-34 Today I’ve been working on gathering supplies for the fifty six students in our Classical Conversations Foundations classes.  My goal is to prepare “launch” boxes that will be filled with supplies and ready to go so that I won’t have to take time away from our regular homeschool the day before each of our CC days.  Gathering supplies the day before class day was one of the biggest stresses for me during the last school year. This year, I hope to have my foundation laid so that my days will be filled with joy…not stress. Speaking of foundations…I … Continue reading Stable Foundations

Where wisdom flows

Hosea 8-14 (again) and Isaiah 28-30 I need to do these earlier in the day! Words of wisdom wound their way through today (and yesterday’s) readings…more on wisdom and knowledge.  You think those are important to the Lord? All this (see Isaiah 28 — the care and the workings of a garden and of food for a family to eat) also comes from the Lord Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.”‘ Yes, the Lord IS wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.  He is the one who created the wheat plants which produce the wheat berries that are … Continue reading Where wisdom flows
