Out of the box obedience

Jeremiah 41-45 The theme for today seems to be obedience.  The remnant left behind in Judea was frightened and determined in their hearts to run away to Egypt.  But before they went, they tried to outwardly act as if they were following the Lord rather than their own hearts.  They went to Jeremiah and promised to do whatever the Lord told them to do: ““May the Lord your God be a faithful witness against us if we refuse to obey whatever he tells us to do! 6 Whether we like it or not, we will obey the Lord our God to whom we … Continue reading Out of the box obedience

Stable Foundations

Isaiah 31-34 Today I’ve been working on gathering supplies for the fifty six students in our Classical Conversations Foundations classes.  My goal is to prepare “launch” boxes that will be filled with supplies and ready to go so that I won’t have to take time away from our regular homeschool the day before each of our CC days.  Gathering supplies the day before class day was one of the biggest stresses for me during the last school year. This year, I hope to have my foundation laid so that my days will be filled with joy…not stress. Speaking of foundations…I … Continue reading Stable Foundations

A sober calling

Hosea 1-7 The day has been a long one, and I am weary in a good sort of way.  I had a great meeting with my CC tutors and feel so blessed to have them at my side, leading the way for our community to learn how to practice classical, Christian education. The Lord is placing a thirst for knowledge in my heart.  I see references to it everywhere I look!  When I see articles like the one in yesterday’s newspaper about the Texas law that allows schools to count failing test grades as passing ones, I have to shake … Continue reading A sober calling

Mentors needed

2 Kings 12-13; 2 Chronicles 24 Seven-year-old Joash followed the Lord for a very long time…as long as Jehoida the priest was alive and mentoring him.  But after Jeohoida died (at the ripe old age of 130!), Joash turned back to idolatry…his country was overtaken by enemies…and he ended up murdered in his own bed. The Lord often gives us mentors to help us through, doesn’t He?  The idea of mentorship can be found in many places in the Bible, from the story of Joash all the way to the New Testament book of Titus, chapter 2: 3Likewise, teach the … Continue reading Mentors needed

It’s THY will, not MY will

2 Chronicles 10-12 The journey through the Kings of Israel and Judah continues.  Today’s reading was another re-run of yesterday’s passages from 1 Kings.  Have you ever re-read a book or watched a movie a second time through and noticed more about the story and the characters than you did the first time around?  That’s how I feel about these parallel stories in 1Kings and 2 Chronicles.  Sometimes the writer of one book injects a bit more information than the other. For example, tonight I learned that all those who followed the Lord, including the priests, left Israel when Jeroboam … Continue reading It’s THY will, not MY will
