The Ivory Soap Campaign

When my brother and I were kids with smart mouths that sometimes said words kids (and adults!) have no business saying, our parents brought out the Ivory soap and gave us an appreciation of the value in telling the truth. I’m here to tell you today that we need a big old bar of Ivory soap to wash out the filth pouring out of politicians’ mouths these days. (Fair warning to McCain supporters — this blog is not a partisan blog today. I’ve been doing some checking, and angry is too mild a word to describe the way I’m feeling … Continue reading The Ivory Soap Campaign

‘Dare to do our duty’

My daughter and I are swimming in a world full of stories of political back-biting, Republicans hating their own office-holder, Democrats bashing the President, the press bashing the President, a very unpopular war (what war is popular, by the way?), states rights vs. federal control, the haves and the have-nots.  No, we’re not talking about the current political scene on the trail end of the Bush Presidency, although we could be.  We’re learning about the Civil War and President Abraham Lincoln. I have to give homeschooling more snaps because I am learning so much more as an adult than I … Continue reading ‘Dare to do our duty’

Heart Trouble

Corruption? That’s a heart problem. Pork-barrel politics? Another heart problem. Inability to vote yes or no, only present? Yup, a heart problem. Name-calling? Heart problem. Stagnation and indecision? Heart problem. Greed? Heart problem. Now is the time for Christians to band together in one body to pray like we’ve never prayed before. It is way past time for us to pray for our President, our Presidential candidates, our congressmen, our senators, their aides and assistants, the President’s cabinet, leaders on Wall Street, leaders on Main Street, and each other. This fiasco has gone way beyond who will get elected this … Continue reading Heart Trouble

Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

For the first time in my short life, someone has pointedly made fun of my faith. That’s a pretty sad state of affairs, considering that I have been a Christian for the past twenty five years. Writing this blog has been the first public foray I have delved into as far as sharing my faith. I’ve talked to my students about my faith (in a private school) and to my family, but I’ve never been one to strike up a conversation with the sweet man who bags my groceries. I tend to shy away from confrontations because they make me … Continue reading Of Pigs, Wolves and Pearls

Huckabee Strikes Back

Main Street is rumbling. The people are up in arms. They are perplexed and angry. What has happened to our nation’s economy? Why is the so-called Republican government gearing up to bail out failed corporations to the tune of over 700 Billion dollars? A little-known book in the Old Testament, Habakkuk, contains a revelation that seems eerily similar to the debacle going on in the back rooms of Wall Street: “Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.[b] Wealth[c] is treacherous, and the arrogant are … Continue reading Huckabee Strikes Back
