Truckzilla

Today is a great day to share a little story about faith and to illustrate how God works all things for the good of those who love him. The story begins with a little thing called Truckzilla, my husband’s new ride: Just so you know, my husband is 6’2″.  That is one BIG truck.  Hence its nickname: Truckzilla. This morning I was in a rush to get to a doctor’s appointment due to some severe abdominal pain I’ve had the last few days. I wanted to cover all the bases before my hysterectomy.  If it’s an ulcer, I want to … Continue reading Truckzilla

Transfer of Power

I took a lovely walk this morning.  If I had thought of it, I would have brought my camera.  But I didn’t…so you’ll just have to take my word for it that it was a lovely jaunt on a fall morning. However, in honor of the first day of fall, here’s a picture of a pond near my home that we took several years ago. Even a camera could not have captured the feeling of the breeze buffeting my face and hair.  There is a hint of power in a fresh, fall breeze — one that portends cold snaps and … Continue reading Transfer of Power

Updated Prayer: Heart “Transplants” Needed

A heavy burden for prayer is on my heart. Last night I came across a prayer in the Bible that is so relevant for our times and challenges today that I experienced goosebumps and suddenly had the thought that I should write my own prayer. Daniel wrote his prayer (Daniel 9:1-19) around 538 BC after he learned from the prophet Jeremiah that Jerusalem would be desolate for seventy years.  (It was.  History confirms that they were defeated by the Babylonians.  Most of the people were carried away to Babylon.)  He was hurting for his country and his people. Like Daniel, … Continue reading Updated Prayer: Heart “Transplants” Needed

Ultimate Power Source

With this unrelenting heat, it’s hard to think about what life would be like if we didn’t have power.  Air conditioning is a balm to my soul when the thermometer in my car reads “113!”  I use power 24 hours a day: electric toothbrush, hair dryer, ceiling fan, air conditioning, oven, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator, toaster, computer, iPad, iPhone, telephone, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, water heater, lighting, television, heating pad, air purifier, car…did I mention air conditioning?  Suffice it to say that electrical and/or gas power is an integral part of my life. As important as electricity has become to … Continue reading Ultimate Power Source

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace.  Those words have new meaning to me today. For nearly two years, I’ve been suffering from periods so painful that I was on the brink of getting a hysterectomy just to find relief.  I’ve dreaded that time of the month with palatable fear because I knew what kind of pain I was about to experience…the kind that no medication helps.  The kind that causes my lower back to hurt worse than it did during labor when I had my daughter.  The kind that doubles me up, causes me to lose my appetite, and brings on nausea. The severe … Continue reading Amazing Grace
