A seal over my heart

Song of Solomon Whew!  The book of Song of Solomon is full of innuendo and love talk.  I’ve always known that, but I never sat down and read all eight chapters in one reading. It’s fitting for me to read these chapters right in the middle of my vacation with my husband.  Being just the two of us again reminds me of all the reasons why I love him.   I’m a lucky woman indeed to be married to a man who is so easy going.  Even though WE are on vacation, it’s been more or less as if I … Continue reading A seal over my heart

Illuminate my path

Psalm 119: 89-176 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. The imagery of light and dark pervades our way of thinking and speaking.  When an idea suddenly comes upon me, I say that an idea dawned upon me.  The idea lit me up.  I think the same is true of the above passage.  Those who unpack the words of the Lord in scripture have light that permeates everything they do, think, understand, feel, and become. I’ve learned through the years that my thought processes are easily adaptable to whatever people I talk to or … Continue reading Illuminate my path

Wisdom Requested

1 Kings 3-4; 2Chronicles 1; Psalm 72 Today was a beautiful day.  As we sat on the balcony overlooking the ocean, my husband pointed out different ocean features to me.  We observed a huge school of fish, probably about three miles wide, swirling across the sea.  These fish were huge; as far off as they were, I caught glimpses of them as they churned up water.  I like hanging out with my husband.  He is interested in everything and is always learning.  It’s a kick to be by his side. Today’s reading is about King Solomon and his request that … Continue reading Wisdom Requested

Teach me

Psalm 119: 1-88 Today’s reading was a very long poem about how the writer felt about the Lord’s commands.  Even though he was being persecuted, he kept on dwelling on the Lord and on diligently following him. At every turn, he’s asking the Lord to teach him, to show him, to guide him, to lead him. As I sit here listening to the sound of the traffic along the beach street mingled with the roar of the ocean, I, too, ask the Lord to teach me to show me, to guide me, and to lead me.  And I pray He … Continue reading Teach me

A state of delight

1 Kings 1-2; Psalm 37; 71; 94 I have graduation on my mind.  Two of my nephews graduate from high school this year; one graduated yesterday, and the other will graduate next week.  It seems like just yesterday they were little boys playing with matchbox cars: now they are big boys playing with real cars! So as I read these words tonight, I thought of the journey ahead of each of them: one wants to be a sports journalist, and the other wants to be a doctor — Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires … Continue reading A state of delight
